If the SUMP FILTER is being replaced due to a split in the side of the filter along the crimp, this Tech Tip applies. It has been discovered that the 4799662AB cooler return filter (-AB version only!) can allow the torque converter to drainback. When the vehicle is started, the air in the T/C is compressed and after passing though the cooler can be directed to the sump filter. The compressed air has the ability to split the filter. If the cooler return filter is marked with P/N 4799662AB, replace both filters. If the cooler return filter has no part number marking, or is marked 4799662AC (or later), replace only the sump filter.
